Paco de Lucia

An evening dedicated to the man who opened up the world’s eyes and ears to Flamenco, and one of the most influential guitarists of his generation.

The duo of pianist Chano Domínguez and Andalucian guitarist Niño Josele open the concert, performing the entrancing, delicately poised music from their acclaimed Okeh album Chano y Josele.

A second set features nine key members of Paco de Lucía’s bands over the year – a stellar line-up includes flautist/saxophonist Jorge Pardo, bassist Carles Benavent, percussionist Rubem Dantas, vocalist Duquende and spectacular dancer Farru. The performance is set to a backdrop of specially devised visuals, including previously unseen images and excerpts from La Busqueda, a new film based on de Lucía's life made by his son, Curro.
This performance is a heartfelt tribute from his closest collaborators, a chance to see Paco De Lucia’s spirit and energy channelled through their music and movement.

Gran Charity Gala 2014 - Special Guest Antonio Canales

As in previous years, Ilusion Flamenca will be supporting a charity to raise money for a worthy cause.  This year, we are supporting ANDA,the Spanish Disabled Children’s Association, which is relocating from its present site to new premises. ANDA will need 30,000 euros to buy new medical equipment for therapeutic treatment. With your help, Ilusion Flamenca is aiming to raise 5,000 euros towards ANDA’s fundraising target.

Celebrities and artists have joined forces to help ANDA reach its goal and Ilusion Flamenca is delighted to announce that Antonio Canales, Rafael Amargo, Tomatito, Samanta Villar, and various athletes and sports men and women are supporting us in our fundraising efforts.

Our special guest for the evening will be the world famous flamenco star, Antonio Canales, three times awarded by the Unesco for his contribution to arts and culture.

You can donate to the fund even if you can't make it to the Gala. Account details for donations will be published soon, so watch this space. Please help us to help
ANDA!

As part of this charity project, Ilusion Flamenca will be organizing a flamenco dance holiday trip to Almeria. During the trip we will have the chance of participating in the
ANDA race, in which locals will be running to raise funds for the charity.  There will also be an intensive flamenco course with International Flamenco Star Rafael Amargo, who is visiting the city to participate in the race.

Last year, Ilusion Flamenca held a Charity Gala at Le Meridien Hotel Piccadilly, London, hosted by Rafael Amargo. Thanks to the generosity of all who participated in and contributed towards the event, 3,500 euros was raised on the night for the Spanish Food Bank.

Read exclusive interview with Mr Canales for El Iberico Newspaper.

We would like to thank to all those that have supported us and have made this project possible. El Iberico Newspaper, Genteventos, Bar&Co for their support and Cinco Jotas, Jose Sol, Jose Fine Wines Ltd, El Carnaval de la Comedia  for their donations.

Please register your interest in attending to this event by emailing gala@ilusionflamenca.co.uk

WHAT'S BECOME OF YOU?

A few years ago,  Stephanie Fuster did what a lot of us flamenco lovers dream about: she left her studies and work to go and immerse herself in flamenco life in Seville, ending up a member of Israel
Galvan’s company. This show is her story. From a humorous dress
with a life of its own, to gruelling practice in a steamy studio, and a stunning final section performed in water, the show is packed with
stage pictures impossible to forget, set to live guitar by José
Sanchez and vocals by Alberto Garcia.

Thu 21st April 2013 Ilusion Flamenca Charity Fiesta

Please notice that this event has been moved to Le Meridien Hotel in Picadilly and it is not
longer taking place at Sheraton Park Lane Hotel. We needed to upgrade in order to accomodate more guess
due to high demand.

Ilusion Flamenca will donate in full, all the money raised by the Fiesta taking place in London on 21 April, to Cibersolidaridad, a Spanish ONG that runs national and  international  projects. We will be supporting the fundraising event "Marathon against poverty" which will take place in Almerias on 2nd June. People willing to participate in the marathon need to donate 1 kg of food.

Last year, the project collected 30 tonnes of food, helping 100 families who had suffered severely from the consequences of unemployment as a result of the Spanish financial crisis. Our contribution will buy food that will be donated to the Spanish Food Bank.

Last year, artists like flamenco guitarist Tomatito, David Bisbal, Indurain and Perico Delgado supported the project.  This year, we are delighted to announce that Rafael Amargo, famous dancer and choreographer, El Maestro Antonio Canales and Samanta Villar of Channel 4 TV will also support the charity on behalf of Ilusion Flamenca.

Special guests attending our London Celebration on 21st April will be the Councillor for Culture at the Town Hall of Almeria; Juan Jose Alonso, the General Secretary of the Spanish Food Bank Manuel Arqueros Cayuela  and the Project Coordinator Luis Enrique Garcia.  They will fly to England  especially for the occasion.  Our Guest of Honour is Rafael Amargo, who has generously agreed to perform for us on the night. There will also be live music from two Rumba bands, to which guests can dance all night.

We have set a minimum donation of £15 (£10 for those attending the masterclasses)  but you are free to donate any amount above that.

This is a very special occasion and we hope that you join us to help raise as much money as possible. If you are not able to attend you can still make an online donation. Please visit our website for more details www.ilusionflamenca.co.uk

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate with all our members, students, friends and supporters having received the Lukas Award to Best Flamenco School.

A fiesta to remember!

TRIP TO THE FERIA DEL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA

Join us for a weekend of dancing, sightseeing and olé!

If the cold weather and dark days are getting you down, why not banish those winter blues by booking your place on Ilusion Flamenca’s trip to Jerez and the feria this April?

Come join us for:

  • Flamenco technique lessons for all levels in one of the spiritual homes of flamenco. Tatiana Ruiz, daughter of Chiqui de Jerez, one of the foremost flamenco teachers in Jerez, and a special guest artist will teach classes just for our group. If you’ve never had classes with Tatiana before – and even if you have – this is a must. You’ll work hard, but you’ll want to come back for more!
  • The chance to dance sevillanas until the early hours and beyond at the spectacular feria in El Puerto de Santa Maria. The feria is a riot of colour and music, with everyone, young and old, dressed to impress in their best finery. And you can join in too! You can buy everything you need to look the part, including the dresses, right there in Jerez. It’s guaranteed to be a night (or two, or three…) you’ll remember for a long time.
  • A visit to the Fundacion Real Escuela Andaluza Del Arte Ecuestre (Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art) to see the world-famous dancing horses of Jerez. Described as ‘ballet on horse-back’, the elegance and grace of ‘How the Andalucian Horses Dance’ is a marvel to watch.
  • A day trip to Cadiz. Travelling by boat from El Puerto de Santa Maria, you’ll be able to explore this historic port city, take in the sweeping views across the bay – or simply relax on the beach.
  • An evening at one of the traditional ‘tablaos’ in Jerez. You’ll be able to enjoy an authentic show of live flamenco – music and dance – while dining on typical Andalucian cuisine. This is flamenco as it should be seen.

If you’ve ever wanted to see the real Spain, and to immerse yourself in the culture of flamenco, then this is the trip for you.  I invite you to share this experience with us. The group is welcoming and friendly. Friends and family are welcome to join of course!
