Manuel de la Malena
Manuel de la Malena voice communicates one of the most pure forms of Flamenco. He captures the passion, the pain and the pathos of the peoples of Andalusia. Manuel is a descendant of one of the earliest Flamenco singers, Luis Montoya Garcés, or Tio Luis el de Juliana, and was himself born in Jerez de la Frontera, one of the points of the Flamenco triangle between Sevilla and Huelva. Manuels voice is deep, resonant and full of the most beautiful expressions of the genre of Flamenco cante. His appearances at the Festival de la Union, Cante Grande de Almeria and the National Festival de Cordoba saw him working alongside such Flamenco luminaries as Tio Borrico, Antiano Mairena, and Vicente Soto Sordera to great acclaim and high praise winning him awards for his performances.
Tito Heredia
is an Andalucian gypsy born in Algeciras, near Gibraltar and was educated in Madrid and London. With a family background of flamenco music, his uncle a singer and his cousins guitarists, he started his career when he was only eleven years old. Unable to read music he learned the correct fingering for the guitar from a diagram drawn in the back of a cigarette packet by a veteran flamenco player. At the age of eighteen he won a scholarship to Madrid University, where he graduated as an architect. However, he then decided he was more interested in the intricacies of virtuoso guitar playing than elevations, plans, and blueprints!. Although he plays classical guitar, Tito is chiefly interested in Flamenco Music - "It has the tragic intensity of life"- he says. Tito has played throughout Spain, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, The United States and Australia. He has accompanied Trader Fanlkner in "Lorca" at the Lyric, and Donmar Theatres in London. He has also appeared on television with Frankie Howard, Dave Allen, Benny Hill and Clio Laine. We can also hear Tito's guitar in the Mask of Zorro soundtrack.

Angela Alonso was born in southern Spain. She was brought up in an environment where music and dance played an important role. Her aunt, Trinidad Garcia, a Flamenco and Ballet Teacher herself, introduced Angela to this art form at the age of four. From that moment until today, Flamenco has become a way of life for her. Email your answer to ilusionflamenca@hotmail.com including
your name and a contact telephone number by Wednesday 16th of September before 3pm. Winners will be notified

“ Diego has on of the most beautiful flamenco voices of our time, a voice of sweetness that flows over into everything he sings. When I listen to him, it warms my heart.” Paco de Lucia
Diego El Cigala returns to London with a special intimate live show to launch his new record Dos Lágrimas (Two Tears) the sequel to the multi-award winning collaboration with Bebo Valdes Lágrimas Negras.
In the Dos Lágrimas show, Diego again visits the great Cuban songbook backed by an inspired band of piano, bass, guitar and percussion. This time he brings the six years of experience since Lágrimas Negras to bear on his interpretations. The sound is a wonderful bridge between Cuban son and flamenco.
“I travelled to Havana for the first time in 2003… That’s when I discovered the Cuban people, when I realised they had a great deal in common with the gypsies, in their way of life, the way they feel things, with problems coming at them from all sides. Music is their charm, and their purest form of expression.” Diego El Cigala

Paco Peña has thrilled audiences for many years with his masterful flamenco performances, famed for their passion and authenticity. Delving into an often overlooked period of flamenco history, Paco Peña explores the many dance styles that emerged through the migration of Spanish performers to Latin America in the early 1900s, and their significant impact on flamenco today.
The show features four dancers from Peña's own company, a guest dancer from Venezuela and 12 virtuoso musicians and singers performing live on stage. Audiences will be taken on a journey right to the heart of Latin America, packed with all the intensity, depth and raw energy that have become this maestro's trademark.

FREE EVENT!!
FLAMENCO IN THE PARK
Hola amigos - it's summer time!
We would love you to join us for an evening of Flamenco in the park. A group of flamenco students and amateurs will gather in St James's Park, at the Blue Bridge, between 5.00-5.15pm. We will then find a good spot for a picnic, so please bring food and drinks. There will be live acoustic music and lots of fun!!
Although this is a free event and everybody is welcome to join in, we will be taking up a voluntary collection as a gift for the musicians who will kindly give up their time to entertain us.
Due to the success of our previous Feria de Sevilla de Londres, we had to quickly look for excuses to have another fiesta party where everybody can dress up and dance... The Festival of the May Crosses of London (in June) sounds perfect to us!
The Festival of the May Crosses (Cruces de Mayo) is celebrated throughout Andalucia. The festival consists of the construction of large crosses made of beautiful flowers in many of the city's main square. This is where the locals congregate each evening for a good few drinks and tapas which inevitably leads to spontaneous Sevillanas and Rumba style dancing while wearing traditional flamenco outfits.
Beginning of May visitors from all over Spain arrive to Andalucia to join the party. The actual crosses which are around three metres high are made by the people of the neighbourhood and the local town council runs a competition to find the best cross (Concurso de los Cruces de Mayo). In Cordoba alone there are some eighty crosses to choose from.
As we intended for the Feria de Sevilla fiesta we would like to recreate the athmosphere of the Cruces de Mayo in London. Please come along dressed up in flamenco costume. If you don't have one just wear a flower in the hair, some red lipstick and big earrings (for the ladies). A polkadot scarf will do for the gentlemen! Make a little effort, it makes a huge difference!
Live acts to be soon announced, please watch this space...

d
Directly from Jerez, the heart of flamenco, just pure flamenco, lead by Chiqui de Jerez.
Ismael Heredia a la guitarra, Juan Garcia al baile and Manuel Soto al cante, will delight us with their talend and duende
ISMAEL HEREDIA
was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1981, into a gypsy family. From a very early age, Ismael took an interest in the guitar. He started playing by being self-taught.
He has worked with Juan Parrilla and has also played for many renowned flamenco dancers and singers. Ismael has performed at numerous Tablaos in Jerez, Cadiz and Seville. He has also toured the world, including the five continents. In 2007 he performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London as a supporting act to the great guitarist Tomatito.
His work has included performances with award-winning dancers Rocio Molina, Javier Latorre, Adela Campallo and Juana Amaya and many others.
We are delighted that he is returning to London!
JUAN GARCIA
Born in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Juan started to study flamenco and Spanish classical ballet in Cadiz at the age of 10. He then moved then to Seville, where he learned from great teachers like Manolo Marin, Pilar Ortega and Manuel Betanzos.
He has performed at many tablaos and has toured the world, dancing as a solo artist with the Chiqui de Jerez Flamenco Company.

Show starts at 8pm
The Barcelona's hip hop flamenkillo collective play their first show in the UK since 2007 and give the live premiere to tracks from their new album Aocaná as part of La Linea 09 the Liverpool Latin Music Festival.
Aocaná is their first new studio album since Techarí in 2006.
Techarí won a Latin Grammy in 2007 and UK critics were equally impressed:
Their last show in the UK was in 2007 at a sold out Roundhouse. The Guardian gave the show a 5 star review: “The classy musicianship was matched by the visual effects, with the constant changes in style matched by the witty imagery on the screen behind the stage. This was great European music with a global outlook”.
