Ilusion Flamenca Amateur Group is an international Flamenco dance group created and directed by Angela Alonso, and based in London. The members of the group, comprising dancers, guitarists and drummers, come from many different countries, including Spain, UK, Mexico, Turkey, Poland, Thailand, Australia, Peru, Sweden, China, Brazil and Japan.
The group has been dancing together for several years, performing a variety of traditional Spanish, contemporary and Arabic styles, from the classical Pasodoble and Sevillanas, to traditional Andalusian folk dances like Tanguillos, Fandangos and Rumbas, and the pure Flamenco styles such as Solea and Bulerias. They regularly participate in festivals and other events, performing the choreographies learnt in class, and the shows are professional and vibrant.
Group members say that joining the classes has given them the opportunity to make new friends, and enjoy parties, trips to Spain, and other activities. It’s great to see that a love of Flamenco music and dance can unite so many varied cultures – why not come along to a class and see for yourself?
The Ilusion Flamenca Amateur Group regularly performs at festival and parties organised by the School.
Our shows have a unique style. We create innovative choreographies using the different cultural backgrounds and nationalities of the members of the group; the rhythm of Flamenco and the simple, elegant costumes unifies the dancers and results in a very special show!
Everyone is welcome to come to our shows, which offer a relaxed, informal and, above all, interactive atmosphere. Our enthusiasm is contagious – when we finish the show, members of the audience join in and discover their “hidden dancer”!
